What Is the Webster Technique? A Plain-English Guide for Expecting Parents
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment used during pregnancy, with a focus on the pelvis and sacrum. You will often see it linked to breech babies online. The technique itself is about pelvic and sacral function, and no provider can honestly promise it will change your baby’s position.
What the Webster Technique is
It was developed by chiropractor Dr. Larry Webster, and certification today runs through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). ICPA describes it as a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment aimed at pelvic and sacral function during pregnancy, not a generic adjustment. Healthline’s overview of the technique adds that the focus includes the muscles and ligaments in and around the pelvis and sacrum.
Why the pelvis gets so much attention in pregnancy
The sacrum is the triangular bone at the base of your spine, set between the two halves of your pelvis. During pregnancy, ligaments naturally soften and stretch to prepare for labor, as the NHS guide to back pain in pregnancy explains, and your growing belly shifts your weight forward. Together, those changes can affect how the pelvis and low back share the load, which can contribute to pain in the low back, hips and pelvis. If you are trying to work out which kind of pain you have, our post on pelvic pain, sciatica and round ligament pain in pregnancy compares the three.
What the research says
Honestly, not much, and not very strong. Healthline’s summary of the most-cited study on the technique and breech presentation notes that it was small, relied on self-reported information, and did not confirm the breech position by ultrasound in many cases. Its authors concluded that more and better studies are needed.
That does not mean the care has no place. It means you should be cautious about anyone who promises a specific result, and it is a good reason to talk with your OB or midwife first. Healthline notes the technique is considered safe for most pregnancies, but it may not be appropriate with vaginal bleeding, placenta previa, placental abruption, or moderate to severe preeclampsia.
What a Webster visit looks like at Radiant
Dr. Cameron Williams is Webster Technique certified through ICPA. A visit starts with listening to your history and what you are experiencing. We look at posture and movement and, when appropriate, use non-invasive CLA INSiGHT scans (heart rate variability, surface EMG and thermography) to see how your nervous system is functioning. The analysis and adjustment are then done in a way that keeps you comfortable at your stage of pregnancy.
How often you come in is individual. Some patients benefit from more frequent visits early in care, and visits typically decrease as they feel better. The decision about how much care you want is always yours.
Questions to ask any provider who offers it
- Are you currently Webster Technique certified, and through whom?
- How will you coordinate with my OB or midwife?
- What will you do if I have symptoms that belong with another provider?
- How will we know whether care is helping, and when will we reassess?
- What is the plan, and what does it cost, before I commit to anything?
Talk to your OB or midwife first if…
Check in before booking if any of these apply:
- You have vaginal bleeding, or you have been told you have placenta previa or placental abruption.
- You have been diagnosed with preeclampsia, or your OB has flagged your pregnancy as high risk.
- You have severe or ongoing pain, a fever, or burning when you urinate.
- Your baby is moving less than usual. That is always a call to your provider, not a reason to book a chiropractic visit.

I’ve only been a patient with Dr. Cameron for a few months and I can absolutely tell you he’s the best chiropractor I’ve been to. He takes the time to create a treatment plan that’s right for you and is actually invested in making sure you leave feeling better. The concerns I initially visited Dr. Cameron for have corrected themselves without the need for invasive surgery or heavy medication. If you haven’t been getting the results with your current chiropractor or are just looking for someone you can trust with your health, I’d strongly recommend setting up an appointment to see Dr. Cameron. You’ll be glad you did.Posted on Google![]()

Working with Dr. Cameron has been great. He’s very thorough in diagnosing and explaining what’s causing my back issues. The appointments are efficient, and I always feel better after. Plus, he gave me exercises/stretches to work on at home so it’s a holistic approach to help with longer term prevention of problems. I would definitely recommend him.Posted on Google![]()

Dr. Cameron is an amazing chiropractor who focuses on the issues and creates a plan to adjust the issues to sustainable living. Went from migraine/tension headaches daily to having nothing for past 2 weeks. I had an accident that put me out of alignment, yet Dr. Cameron has taken the time to assess and progress with each area and issue. Has alleviated numbness in my fingers from my wrist issue and recovering a majority of the lost flexibility in my neck. Posture is improving and the tension I carried between my shoulder blades to the base of my neck is relieved.Posted on Google![]()
